The School of Business and Management has been awarded two Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Excellence Awards for its outstanding contribution to the accounting profession.
The CIMA Excellence Awards celebrate outstanding academic partners, tuition providers and students who have made significant contributions to the accounting profession and the Institute over the past year. These awards highlight the high-quality of teaching, research, and learning in accounting education across the world.
The virtual awards ceremony was held on 11 December 2020. Queen Mary's School of Business and Management won the CIMA Campus Culture Excellence Bronze Award in recognition of its successful campaigns to create awareness and promote the CIMA professional qualification within their campuses.
In addition to this, the School of Business and Management also won the CIMA Global Prize Winner Bronze Award for the its Accounting and Management programme. The CIMA Prize Winner Bronze Award recognises the academic partner institution that trained CIMA’s Top Student of The Year.
Dr Ishani Chandrasekara, Programme Director of BSc Accounting and Management, said: "I am honoured to receive two CIMA Global Excellence academic awards this year. I want to thank my students for these nominations and those who have inspired me.
"I am very thankful for my senior mentor Professor Stefan Kurmmaker and the continuous support I receive from my brilliant institution Queen Mary University of London. I am also truly grateful for the CIMA Global team who have shined a light on the academic members to ensure their hard work for excellence in education is recognised."
Andrew Harding, Chief Executive of the CIMA said: "The CIMA Excellence Awards honour institutions and individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the accounting profession and worked tirelessly to enrich their students, providing them with the best possible education and prepare the next generation of accounting professionals.
"The awards received by Queen Mary's School of Business and Management are a true testament of its commitment and dedication to building the future of our profession."
Sponsored by the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants, the global accounting organisation formed by CIMA and the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), the CIMA Excellence Awards will be presented annually to those who have made a difference to the global accounting community, and proactively supported their students towards earning their Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) designation, the most widely held management accounting designation in the world.
