Queen Mary University of London is pleased to restate our commitment to the EU with the launch of £50001 a year Scholarships to support EU students who begin undergraduate or taught postgraduate programmes in September 2021.
Every year Queen Mary welcomes hundreds of students from the EU, enrolling students from all EU member states, who make up around 13 per cent of the University’s student body. They bring academic excellence and diversity of background, culture and view to our student community.
Students in schools and universities across the EU have been used to viewing the UK as an attractive destination for higher education. Following the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, these students will no longer have 'home fee status' in the UK2, will face increased tuition fees and will be unable to apply for student loans from the UK government, removing this opportunity for the majority of students.
Queen Mary is therefore launching new EU Scholarships to mitigate the effect of this change on those students in the final year of high school or university who intend to continue their education in the UK in the next academic year.
The Scholarships will be available to students domiciled in EU countries and assessed as overseas fee payers who choose full-time undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes starting in September 2021, except for those offered by the School of Medicine and Dentistry.
Professor Colin Grant, Vice-Principal (International) said, "This investment reaffirms Queen Mary’s commitment to the EU student community. We are proud to be one of the most diverse universities in the world, and openness and an international outlook are key to our values. Our work and our communities are enriched by a staff and student community who join us from over 160 countries and we have extensive links with Europe, including a campus in Malta, postgraduate law and International Relations programmes in Paris, and extensive exchange programmes with our European partner institutions.
"As a University we are incredibly proud of the diversity of our students and staff. Regardless of the outcome of the Brexit negotiations, our commitment to Europe and the diversity of the Queen Mary community remains stronger than ever."
