On 15 April 2021, Queen Mary University of London and Mexico’s Research Centre for Advanced Materials (CIMAV) will host a joint event to mark the launch of their new MRes programme in Materials Science.
The event builds on the ground-breaking agreement between the two institutions to create a dual master by research degree programme and follows continuing discussions between staff at Queen Mary and CIMAV to strengthen the relationship between the two institutions. CIMAV is a leading research institution headquartered in Chihuahua, Mexico. The new dual MRes programme will provide a pathway for CIMAV students to attend Queen Mary, benefiting from the excellent facilities and teaching on offer at the University’s School of Engineering and Materials Science.
The launch event will be opened by Queen Mary’s President and Principal, Professor Colin Bailey and Dr María Elena Álvarez-Buylla Roces, the Director of the National Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT). Students, academics and senior staff from both institutions as well as representatives from both Mexican and UK industry and key figures including Carlos González Herrera (Secretary of Education and Sports of the state of Chihuahua), Juliana Correa (General Director of the Department of International Trade, Mexico) and Lisbeily Domínguez Ruvalcaba from Instituto de Innovación y Competitividad, Chihuahua, will be in attendance.
Dr Philippa Lloyd (Vice-Principal, Policy and Strategic Partnerships), Dr Sharon Ellis (Director of Research and Business Development) and Professor Teresa Alonso (Dean for international in Science and Engineering), said: “We are delighted to see that following ongoing efforts from staff at Queen Mary and CIMAV we’re now able to mark the creation of this exciting programme. Through this event, we hope to bring students, academics and staff from both institutions together with industry and other partners to ensure this initiative positively benefits not only Queen Mary and CIMAV, but the UK and Mexico.”
“We’d like to thank our colleagues at both institutions, in Queen Mary, and Dr Leticia Torres-Guerra, General Director of CIMAV and her team, for their continued work to develop this partnership and open the doors of opportunity to Materials Science students.”
