Deciding where to study is a decision no student takes lightly. It takes a lot of research and consideration of many factors.
Queen Mary University of London has over 28,000 students who have chosen to pursue their passions and fulfil their potential with us, and we have been opening the doors of opportunity to students since 1785. But why do so many choose us as their home for the next few years?
World-class education
First and foremost, our students receive an internationally renowned, world-class education and are taught by academics who are the leaders in their fields. Queen Mary is one of the 24 prestigious Russell Group universities and is recognised each year as one of the top universities in the UK and across the world. We are currently 13th in the UK, and 110th in the world in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
The only on-campus Russell Group experience in London
The allure of university is not just following passions at a higher level of learning. A key part of it is the sense of freedom and independence that comes with setting your bags down in university halls for the first time.
Queen Mary is the only campus-based Russell Group university in London, which is ideal for any student looking for the safety and security of campus living and immediate access to one of the world’s greatest cities.
As Khairul, one of our current students at Queen Mary, has said: “Our campus is an oasis in this fabulous city, and I can’t wait to see what societies and clubs are available this year.”
We couldn’t agree more, and as far as clubs and societies are concerned, there is something for everyone - from sports to academic societies, special interest clubs and volunteering.
London on your doorstep
Situated in trendy East London, Queen Mary offers an easy route to exploring every corner of the capital. Our campuses are served by the best of London’s public transport, so it only takes a moment to get to any part of London and take advantage of all that the capital has to offer.
Ashwin, a student here at the University, says in a sentiment shared by many: “I’m so excited to start venturing out in the city again, this time without the restrictions, to find new restaurants, parks and museums to explore with my friends.”
Meet people from all round the world
Diversity is at the heart of everything we do at Queen Mary. We are proud to have more than 160 nationalities represented on our London campuses.
This diversity is so important to us for so many reasons, including offering our students the chance to make friends for life from across the globe as they share classes and experiences together.
Supporting all students
Our mission is to create a truly inclusive environment where we support talented students regardless of their background and personal experience. Our access programmes, including Realising Opportunities and Access to Queen Mary, aim to support students from under-represented backgrounds to access and succeed at Queen Mary. So far, we’ve supported over 1,300 students through our access programmes and we continue to work with thousands more through pre-entry outreach, attainment raising, and transition activity.
Our students enter Queen Mary from a range of academic backgrounds. In addition to accepting those who undertake A-levels or the International Baccalaureate, we see students joining us after studying BTEC’s and Foundation programmes. No student is limited and applications from all backgrounds are considered equally.
See for yourself!
Queen Mary was recently named the most inclusive Russell Group University and runner-up for UK University of the Year in The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021 – which we are understandably hugely proud of.
We actively encourage anyone interested in studying at Queen Mary to come and see why so many students choose to join us. We are the only London-based Russell Group University running on-campus and online open days this summer (2-3 July). So book your place and see first-hand all that we have to offer in making the next three or four years of your life the very best.
