Queen Mary University of London is proud to congratulate Professor Rupert Pearse who has been recognised with an OBE for services to intensive care medicine in the 2024 New Year Honours list.
Professor Pearse joined Queen Mary in 2006 as a senior lecturer in intensive care medicine and became a professor in 2014. His clinical duties are based at the Royal London Hospital where he oversees the care of patients with critical illnesses of various causes. He led the team at Royal London during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Responding to the accolade Professor Pearse paid tribute to his colleagues:
“It’s a wonderful honour to be nominated for this award. Intensive medicine is at the sharp end of the NHS services, and we were truly put to the test during the pandemic. I see this as recognition for the amazing teams at Barts Health and Queen Mary University London who gave their all in the most difficult of circumstances.”
Professor Colin Bailey CBE, President and Principal of Queen Mary University of London offered his heartfelt congratulations:
“I am delighted to learn that Professor Rupert Pearse has been awarded an OBE in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of intensive care medicine. As both a pioneering researcher and dedicated teacher, Rupert has advanced our understanding of critical care and improved patient outcomes through his groundbreaking work. I’ve no doubt all his colleagues at Queen Mary University are just as proud of his achievements.”
