Professor Helen Bailey, Queen Mary University’s new Vice Principal International, hosted her first international delegation on Monday 30 September 2024. Together with colleagues including Professor Richard Grose, Director of the Global Policy Institute, she welcomed senior leaders from Wuhan University to the University’s Mile End Campus.
The visit marked the formalisation of a collaboration agreement between the two universities, which establishes an academic partnership to enhance student opportunities.
As part of the agreement, Wuhan University students will be able to complete part of their undergraduate or postgraduate studies at Queen Mary, with a streamlined process for their applications to Master’s degree programmes.
The delegation from Wuhan University, led by Professor Yuan Yufeng, Vice-President and Director of the Medical Faculty , included Professor Nie Jun, Dean of the Economics and Management School; Professor Ji Li, from the School of Journalism and Communication; and Mr Zhang Chen, Deputy Director of the Office of International Affairs.
During the visit, the Wuhan University delegation explored extending on the collaboration with Queen Mary’s School of Economics and Finance and h the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry.
Professor Bailey reflected on the significance of the agreement, saying:
“The signing of the agreement with Wuhan University marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter as I begin my role at Queen Mary. Our global engagement goal is to build long-term sustainable partnerships that have transformative impact through collaborative education, research and innovation. I’m looking forward to our partnership with Wuhan University evolving to meet our shared ambitions."
