The Principal led a delegation of 22 staff representing 9 nationalities to India this week, to strengthen our existing partnerships and relationships and broker new ones. The trip underlines the growing importance of India as a partner region to Queen Mary.
When the delegation arrived in Mumbai, staff separated and travelled across India to cities including Pune, Chennai and the surrounding regions before coming back together in New Delhi. As part of the trip, two very successful alumni engagement receptions were held in Mumbai and New Delhi, two new MoUs were signed, the Principal spoke at the QS Summit, two admissions fairs were held with multiple academic Schools represented and on the spot offers to applicants made and multiple presentations were given by our academics to students in universities in India.
India is a very important region for Queen Mary. Alongside research collaborations, we have multiple partner universities in India and through our partners and by direct application we currently have more than 1400 Indian students on our campuses. Our existing alumni chapters in Mumbai and New Delhi are very ably led. As a result of connections made during the trip, we hope to launch a new alumni chapter in Chennai shortly. We also have longstanding partnerships in India, including with OP Jindal Global University, with whom we signed a new MoU to work together in the Biosciences. Queen Mary’s India Office, led by Jaspreet Kaur, coordinated the trip.
Professor Colin Bailey said:
“It was an absolute pleasure to lead a large delegation to India this week. Members of the delegation worked incredibly hard, meeting high level stakeholders, partners, alumni, prospective applicants and offer holders in 7 cities across India. As a result of this delegation, we will see existing partnerships become even deeper and more productive, and new partnerships flourish. I was particularly struck by the enthusiasm and fantastic welcome from our alumni in India, who are so passionate about their alma mater.
“India is an incredibly important region for Queen Mary, and I look forward to working even closer with colleagues there than ever before.”
