On Wednesday 17th July, Queen Mary University of London welcomed the Minister for Education at the Royal Thai Embassy in London, along with members of the Embassy’s Office of Educational Affairs.
The delegation from the Royal Thai Embassy - led by the Minister for Education, Mr Chinnaphan Roekchamnongm – began by meeting with students sponsored by the Embassy to discuss their experience of studying at Queen Mary. This was followed by a meeting with Queen Mary representatives where discussions included student experience and the scope for future collaboration between Queen Mary and Thailand.
This meeting follows on from earlier visits to Queen Mary by the Royal Thai Embassy in London and the Office of the Civil Service Commission (OCSC) and a delegation representing Thailand’s Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) in May 2024. The visit also builds on existing partnerships that Queen Mary has with two leading Thai institutions: Chulalongkorn University and Mahidol University International College.
The meeting was chaired by Professor Alex Clark, Dean for International at Queen Mary’s Faculty for Science and Engineering, who said:
“It was a pleasure to meet with the delegation from the Royal Thai Embassy as we continue our discussions on future partnerships between Queen Mary and Thailand. We are pleased to have over 100 students from Thailand studying at Queen Mary at present and to host students sponsored through the Royal Thai Embassy. We look forward to seeing this number grow as our collaborations with Thai institutions bloom in the years ahead.”
Also in attendance from Queen Mary were Dr Chinnapat Panwisawas, Senior Lecturer in Materials and Solid Mechanics; Clare Burke, Head of International Partnerships at the Global Engagement Office; Flora McKay, Postgraduate Recruitment, Partnerships and Sponsor Relations Manager; and Dr Craig Wheway, Senior International Partnerships Manager at the Joint Research and Development Office.
