On Tuesday 30 January, Queen Mary University of London welcomed a delegation from Whistling Woods International to our campus in Mile End.
Meghna Ghai Puri, President of Whistling Woods International, was joined by Rahul Puri, Head of Academics.
Whistling Woods International is a small private University based in Mumbai, India. They are a specialist institute of film, communication, and the creative arts – and have around 1,300 enrolled on their campus in the heart of Bollywood. It is the top film school in India, and is considered to be in the top 10 film schools in the world.
The partnership between Queen Mary and Whistling Woods was established just last year in 2023, when we implemented a progression arrangement. This would enable undergraduate students at Whistling Woods to progress to a masters programme in either the School of English and Drama or the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film.
Meghna Ghai Puri and Rahul Puri met with colleagues at Queen Mary including Professor Daniel Todman, Deputy Vice-Principal for the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The focus of the meeting was with the School of English and Drama and the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film – to reflect on the current progression agreement but also to get a better overview of the postgraduate programmes there.
Speaking about the delegation, President Meghna Ghai Puri said: “The partnership expands the educational horizons for Whistling Woods International students by offering them the chance to study at a prestigious international university like Queen Mary. This aligns with the broader goal of fostering academic progression and global educational opportunities for aspiring students.”
Professor Daniel Todman said: “We are so excited to work with Whistling Woods International. As one of the top film schools in the world, there is so much that we can learn as a result of this partnership. The more theory-based nature of some of our film modules brilliantly complements the more practice-based courses offered by Whistling Woods. From the heart of Bollywood via the heart of the East End: I cannot wait to see the successes that students who join us on this journey will have.”
