Queen Mary University of London’s innovative poetry collection The Archive of the Now has joined forces with the Rich Mix cultural centre in Bethnal Green for a celebratory day of poetry for families on Saturday 10 May.
Marking the end of poet Sophie Mayer’s year-long residency at Queen Mary, the Archive of the Now team and Rich Mix’s cutting-edge poetry series Maintenant Camarade have teamed up to create two free family events:
Kiddy Kamarade (ages 8 and under, accompanied by parents or carers)
From 12-3pm, join a carousel of poets, who will be providing ideas and inspiration for making word-art together with your children. Try out imaginative techniques and have a chance to show off what you create. Activities will include arts and crafts, performance, story-telling, charades, music and movement, and the afternoon will conclude with collaborative performances.
Silent Poetry Disco (all ages)
From 3-6pm all ages can join the Archive of the Now team - including Queen Mary students and poet in residence Sophie Mayer - who will be hosting digitally-enabled poetry performances by Hannah Silva and Andra Simons, alongside a student open-mic, and followed by a silent poetry disco.
Please bring a QR-reader equipped smartphone or tablet + headphones if you have access to them, or download tracks from the Archive of the Now to your preferred MP3 player, so you can join in with the disco.
