Boris Johnson’s chief economic advisor is to give his insights on globalisation and the UK economy to students and staff at Queen Mary University of London.
Gerard Lyons will give the annual Peston Lecture, organized by the School of Economics and Finance, on 11 March. Lyons is a respected expert and forecaster (ranked number one by Bloomberg in 2010 and 2011) on both UK and world economic trends and issues.
In 2008, the month before the collapse of Lehman Brothers, Lyons was one of only two UK economists to predict an imminent deep recession for the UK. Three years later, against the consensus, he predicted the euro zone crash.
Lyons is Chief Economic Advisor to Boris Johnson, Mayor of London. Previously he held senior posts at Standard Chartered, was Executive Director at DKB International and Chief UK Economist at Swiss Bank Corporation.
He has been a regular speaker at major domestic and world financial forums, including the annual meeting of the IMF and the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The Peston Lecture takes place on Tuesday 11 March at 6.30pm in the Skeel Lecture Theatre, Bancroft Building, Mile End campus.
The Lecture is named after Baron Maurice Peston who founded the economics department at Queen Mary. Speakers in previous years include Baron Peston’s son, BBC business editor, Robert Peston and popular economist, Tim Harford.
