Queen Mary University of London is delighted to announce the arrival of Dr Sally Burtles as Director of Research Services and Business Development. Sally’s role will be to provide leadership and management to the teams within the Business Development Unit and the Joint Research and Management Office.
Sally will have a key role in helping develop and co-ordinate large bids across Queen Mary and will have responsibility for enhancing and building on its strong reputation as a research-intensive university. She will also work with Barts Health NHS Trust to enhance opportunities for clinical research for patient benefit and will support Business Development across the three College Faculties.
Sally joins Queen Mary from Imperial College London where she held the post of Director of Research Operations for the Department of Surgery and Cancer. In this role Sally has been responsible for the implementation and establishment of new initiatives within the Department, such as the Centre for Systems Oncology and Cancer Innovation and the MRC-NIHR National Phenome Centre.
Prior to joining Imperial Sally worked at Cancer Research UK as Director of Centres, responsible for the establishment and management of CRUK's national network of Centres and for leadership of the Experimental Cancer Medicine Network on behalf of CRUK and the four UK Departments of Health. Before taking on this role, Sally was CRUK’s Director of Drug Development, leading CRUK's drug development and early clinical trials programme.
