The Open Innovation Team (OIT) is a cross-government unit that works on a wide range of policies, including health, justice, education, sustainability, energy, international development, and artificial intelligence. This year, the team has launched a new evaluation service which will evaluate the impact of policies across a range of areas. PhD placements work on a diverse range of policy projects and are not expected to have prior experience of policy or knowledge of the policy area that they are asked to work on. This year, there may be additional opportunities to work on the evaluation of policies with the Team’s new evaluation service.

CSaP offers policy internships to PhD students who would like to gain experience and learn more about the relationship between research, evidence and policy making. Internships are for three months full time and offer students a unique career development opportunity, giving them the necessary skills and confidence to work outside their own area of expertise, and as part of a team. PhD students from universities across the UK are eligible to apply (provided they meet funding criteria, etc.).
Closing dates for applications:
POST hosts internships and fellowships throughout the year with different opportunities available depending on academics' funding councils and bodies. Check their Fellowships page for information about current opportunities.
The Policy Internships Scheme allows candidates from the research councils of UK Research and Innovation to get invaluable policy experience, with an organisation of their choice. While fellows typically help us with the production of a POSTnote or POSTbrief, this unique opportunity to view the epicentre of policy-making from the inside may also include a secondment to a select committee or to the House of Commons or House of Lords Libraries.
Applications usually open mid-July each year with a closing date in October.
