This page explains the enrolment process for Distance Learning students including what identification documents are required, how to pay your fees and the enrolment deadlines.
Registry Services will email your personal email address, confirming your place on your programme and inviting you to complete Pre-Enrolment in MySIS. This email is only sent to students who have accepted their offer and met all the conditions of that offer. MySIS login details are included in the email and you can start Pre-Enrolment straight away. The subject line is 'Pre-Enrolment at QMUL is now available!'.
These emails are not sent out to all new starters at the same time so please do not be concerned if you have not received your invite but know of others who have (and vice versa).
Pre-Enrolment involves you confirming with us your academic and personal information, telling us how you will be paying your tuition fees (if applicable to your programme) and uploading a photo of yourself for your Student ID Card. You will also need to upload a document that confirms your identity and/or nationality (e.g. a photo of your passport details page). Please be aware that if you do not upload a suitable photo of yourself and a valid identification document then we will not be able to proceed with your enrolment.
If you are a non-British/Irish national on a Distance Learning programme and will be living or studying in the UK, you will also be required to complete the Immigration Documents (Visa) Upload task during Pre-Enrolment.
You will receive an email to confirm when you have completed Pre-Enrolment successfully. The email subject line is ‘Thank you for completing Pre-Enrolment’.
Once you have successfully completed Pre-Enrolment, the next stage of your enrolment is Queen Mary Enrolment. Please note – you are not a fully enrolled student yet.

After you have completed Pre-Enrolment in MySIS, the Enrolment Team will start Queen Mary Enrolment ahead of your programme start date. This is where checks are carried out on the information and identity documents that you have submitted and we check the information we have about your tuition fee payment.
For students starting in January 2025, we expect that Queen Mary Enrolment will commence from 03 January.
Please be advised that if you have not uploaded a sufficient identification document (i.e. a clear photo of your passport biographical details page), we cannot proceed with Queen Mary Enrolment.
There are two possible outcomes to Queen Mary Enrolment:
Please check your email regularly for confirmation of your enrolment status. We will send an email to your QM email and personal email addresses to confirm what your enrolment status is. The email subject line is ‘Your Enrolment at QMUL’.
You can also check your enrolment status within the ‘My Details’ section of your MySIS account - scroll down to ‘Enrolment Status’.
Please be advised that if you are on a Postgraduate Degree Apprenticeship programme then you are not required to arrange to pay your fees as part of the enrolment process. Your fee payments will have already been arranged and therefore the only thing that is required of you is to complete Pre-Enrolment in MySIS by the enrolment deadline (details towards the bottom of this webpage).
As part of Pre-Enrolment you will need to provide proof of identification. Examples include:
Registry Services will complete Queen Mary Enrolment after you have completed Pre-Enrolment and they have all of the documentation required. You are not required to attend campus to complete your enrolment. Please remember that if any of the required documents are not submitted (e.g. proof of identification) then you will not be fully enrolled.
Once fully enrolled, you will receive an email to confirm the process is complete and the subject line is ‘Enrolment at QMUL’.
You should complete Pre-Enrolment in MySIS by the enrolment deadline (details towards the bottom of this webpage). As part of Pre-Enrolment you will need to upload proof of your identity and nationality.
Examples of proof of identification are:
In a small number of cases, we may request certified copies of your academic documentation to verify your qualifications. This may be in the form of a scanned copy by email. You will be notified separately if this is required.
After you have completed Pre-Enrolment in MySIS, uploaded proof of identity and made arrangements to pay your fees, you can be fully enrolled remotely - you are not required to attend campus to become fully enrolled. You will receive an email to update you on your enrolment status and the subject line is 'Your Enrolment at QMUL'.
Self-Funded Students: You have a choice of either paying all of the tuition for the academic year in full at the start of your programme, or paying in two instalments.
You can set up a payment plan with the Fees Office, whereby you agree to pay 50% of your tuition fees at the start of your programme and pay the remaining 50% by 31 January (September starters) or 30 April (January starters). Please note there is a £50 administrative fee to set up a payment plan.
Postgraduate Loan: If you are in receipt of a loan via the UK Government’s Postgraduate Master’s Loan scheme and have a loan that will cover the full cost of your tuition fees, you can agree a payment plan with the Fees Office to pay in 3 instalments that align with your loan from the Student Loans Company. Please note there is a £50 administrative fee to set up a payment plan.

Please remember that if any of the required documents are not submitted (e.g. proof of identification) or your fees have not been paid, you will not be fully enrolled.
For students who have applied through Knect365, please ensure that you have made your fee payment and supplied Knect365 with good quality scanned copies of the documents listed below. These will be required to complete the admissions and enrolment process at Queen Mary University of London.
Once these documents have been submitted to Knect365 you will receive an email from Registry Services at Queen Mary to invite you to complete Pre-Enrolment in MySIS. The subject line is 'Pre-Enrolment at QMUL is now available!'. You should complete Pre-Enrolment by the enrolment deadline (details towards the bottom of this webpage).
Please complete Pre-Enrolment in full and arrange your fee payment as only then will we be able to fully enrol you on the programme. Please note, you do not need to attend campus to enrol. Once fully enrolled, you will receive an email to confirm the process is complete and the subject line is 'Your Enrolment at QMUL'.
For students applying to Queen Mary ONLINE, you will need to complete Pre-Enrolment by the enrolment deadline (details towards the bottom of this webpage) which includes uploading a colour photo of your identification document(s). You should also make a fee payment as outlined below.
You do not need to come in to Queen Mary to complete your enrolment as the Enrolment Team will complete your enrolment remotely once they have all of the documentation required and you have arranged your fee payment. Once fully enrolled, you will receive an email to confirm the process is complete and the subject line is 'Your Enrolment at QMUL'.
Please remember that if any of the required documents are not submitted (e.g. proof of identification) or your fees have not been paid you will not be fully enrolled.
You must complete Pre-Enrolment by the enrolment deadline.
If you are unable to provide us with sufficient documents that prove your identity and/or nationality (e.g. an image of your passport biographic details page) then we will be unable to proceed with your enrolment and you will not be granted full or temporary enrolment. Please see the guidance under your applicant type above for what you should do.
If you are able to provide identification documents but fail to meet other conditions for enrolment (e.g. missing qualification certificates or failure to arrange tuition fee payment), you may be granted temporary enrolment. The deadline for students to resolve temporary enrolment is Sunday 11th October 2024. After this date, unless you have contacted us, you will be de-registered from your programme.
If you are able to provide identification documents but fail to meet other conditions for enrolment (e.g. missing qualification certificates or failure to arrange tuition fee payment), you may be granted temporary enrolment. The deadline for students to resolve temporary enrolment is Friday 07th February 2025. After this date, unless you have contacted us, you will be de-registered from your programme.
If you have already completed Pre-Enrolment, submitted the required documentation and paid your tuition fees (if applicable for your programme), you do not need to do anything else. You will be fully enrolled automatically in due course - please see our Enrolment Timeline for an idea of when this will be and please remember to regularly check your personal and QMUL email accounts as this is where we will send you updates on your enrolment status.
If you are on an award-bearing programme*, your Student ID card will be posted to the home address that you have supplied during the Pre-Enrolment task within the first few weeks of the semester. Your ID card will not work in Queen Mary buildings and facilities but will identify you as a student. Please do not try and collect your ID card from campus.
*If you are on a short course with no award such as a Distance Learning Pre-Sessional programme, you are not eligible for an ID card.
Teaching normally begins on Monday 23 September 2024 (Semester A) and Monday 20 January 2025 (Semester B), although this can vary slightly for distance learning programmes.
