Transcript of an interview with Albert Reynolds, Irish Taoiseach, by John Humphrys for BBC On the Record on 12 December 1993. Three days later the British and Irish governments jointly issued the Downing Street Declaration which affirmed the right of the people of Northern Ireland to self-determination and stated that future relations between North and South on the island of Ireland were to be determined by the consent of people on both parts of the island. In this interview Reynolds discusses the final days of talks before the Declaration. On the Record was BBC's flagship political programme.
