Video interview with Bernadette Devlin, civil rights activist, for RTE News in February 1969. In August 1968 the Northern Ireland Civil Rights movement began public marches in support of its objectives, leading to political tensions at Stormont and community tensions between Catholics and Protestants in cities such as Derry/Londonderry. In the February 1969 general election Devlin stood unsuccessfully as a People’s Democracy candidate for South Derry. In this interview she discusses her future political career in the wake of this electoral defeat. Devlin was later to be elected as an MP for Mid Ulster in April 1969.
