Transcript of an interview with David Trimble, First Minister of Northern Ireland and leader of the UUP, by David Frost for BBC Breakfast with Frost 1 July, 2001. Trimble explains that, in the three years since the first meeting of Northern Ireland Assembly, the Agreement has not been fully implemented; makes particular reference to the issue of decommissioning; original deadline of 22 May 2000 was extended to June 2001, by agreement of all parties, but that date has now passed, without any progress being made; he no longer has confidence in Republican promises; he now resigns as First Minister in Northern Ireland; would be prepared to resume that office in the event of complete decommissioning; he has to be sure the Agreement will be adhered to.
