Interview with Gerry Adams by Martha Teichner for the Council on Foreign Relations think tank on 21 September 2006

Published:

Interview with Gerry Adams, president of Sinn Fein, by Martha Teichner for the Council on Foreign Relations think tank. This discussion on the Troubles and the peace process touches on many subjects. It focuses on the current impasse in the peace process - the issue of IRA decommissioning as an impediment to the setting up of the Assembly and Executive. It is noted that the British and Irish governments have set a deadline of November for the Northern Ireland parties to reach agreement on power-sharing. Adams believes that it is possible for agreement to be reached between Sinn Féin and Ian Paisley’s DUP by that deadline. Adams also takes questions from an assembled audience.
