Transcript of an interview with Jack Lynch, Irish Taoiseach, by Helmut Sorge for Der Spiegel and published in the Irish Times on 23 October 1972. Within the backdrop of increasing violence in Northern Ireland in 1972, Lynch sets out the difficulties in apprehending those suspected of paramilitary activity. He also discusses the wider constitutional question of Northern Ireland. On 1 December two people were killed and 127 were injured when two bombs were detonated in Dublin while Dail Eireann was passing the Offences Against the State Bill. The Irish Times is the leading daily newspaper in Ireland.
