Transcript of an interview with James Chichester-Clark, Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, by Gerard McCreesh for the Sunday Independent in December 1970. Eighteen months previously Chichester-Clark had succeeded Terence O’Neill as Prime Minister of Northern Ireland. In the intervening period conflict had erupted in Northern Ireland over the civil rights issue while paramilitary organisations such as the Provisional IRA and UVF began militant campaigns.
