Transcript of an interview with John Hume, leader of the SDLP, by John Humphrys for BBC On the Record on 31 October 1993. On 23 October an IRA bomb killed ten people and injured 57 when it exploded on the Shankill Road, Belfast. Seven days later the UFF, an alternative name for the UDA, killed seven people in an attack on a bar in Greysteel, Co. Derry/Londonderry. Hume reacts to this upsurge in political violence and discusses the British and Irish governments' responses to the proposals from the Hume-Adams talks. On the Record was BBC's flagship political programme.
