Transcript of an interview with John Major, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, on 15 July 1996. On 7 July the RUC prevented a parade by Portadown Orangemen from returning from Drumcree Church via the largely nationalist Garvaghy Road on the basis of preventing public disorder. This decision prompted protests in unionist communities and rioting in some areas of Northern Ireland. Four days later the RUC reversed its decision permitting the Orange parade to pass along the Garvagh Road leading to rioting in several nationalist areas of Northern Ireland. In this interview Major discusses the merits of the decisions made by the RUC on this issue.
