Transcript of an interview with John Major, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, for BBC Radio 4 Today on 29 December 1994. On 31 August the Provisional IRA announced a cessation of military activities. On 13 October the Combined Loyalist Military Command also announced a paramilitary ceasefire. In this interview Major discusses the stability of these ceasefires and the future joint publication of Framework Documents with the Irish government with the view to beginning negotiations for a peaceful settlement in Northern Ireland. On 22 February 1995 the British and Irish governments published these Framework Documents, outlining proposals for a future peace agreement and representative government in Northern Ireland.
