Transcript of an interview with John Reid, Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, by David Frost for BBC Breakfast with Frost on 9 June 2002. The first week of June saw the outbreak of sectarian rioting and violence in Belfast, particularly in East Belfast. Meanwhile, on 5 June Sinn Fein's Alex Maskey was elected Lord Mayor of the city. In this interview Reid discusses the reasons for the violence in Belfast and the potential significance of Maskey's election to the peace process. Breakfast with Frost was a weekly BBC current affairs programme.
