Audio interview with Martin McGuinness, vice president of Sinn Fein, by Vincent Browne for RTE Radio 1 Tonight with Vincent Browne on 16 June 1997. Earlier that day two RUC officers were killed by the Provisional IRA, the first RUC fatalities since the ending of the Provisional IRA ceasefire on 9 February 1996. In this interview McGuinness discusses the relapse into violence in Northern Ireland and the potential for peace negotiations with the British government. On 20 July 1997 the Provisional IRA renewed its ceasefire. Tonight with Vincent Browne was a nightly current affairs programme on RTE Radio 1.
