Transcript of an interview with William Craig, former Northern Ireland Minister of Home Affairs, by Gerard McCreesh for the Sunday Independent in August 1970. In December 1968, Terence O’Neill, then Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, dismissed Craig, who differed in opinion on the issue of British intervention in Northern Ireland affairs. Five months later O’Neill himself resigned as Prime Minister and leader of the Unionist Party. Craig discusses the impact of increasing tensions in Northern Ireland on community relations and political policy. The Sunday Independent is Ireland’s principal Sunday newspaper.
