Transcript of an interview with William Long, Northern Ireland Minister of Home Affairs, by Bob Perrin for the BBC and published in the Irish Times on 6 January 1969. In August 1968 the Northern Ireland civil rights movement began public marches in support of its objectives, leading to political tensions at Stormont community tensions between demonstrators, counter-demonstrators and police in cities such as Derry/Londonderry. In this interview Long discusses the potential political consequences of increasing clashes between protesters and the RUC. The Irish Times is the leading daily newspaper in Ireland.
