Audio interview with Winston Irvine, member of the North and West Belfast Parades Forum, and Alban Maginness, SDLP MLA for Belfast North, by Wendy Austin for BBC Radio Ulster Talkback on 26 September 2012. Later that day the Parades Commission determined that a large public parade to mark the centenary of the Ulster Covenant could take place in Belfast three days later with musical and attendee restrictions coming into effect outside St. Patrick’s Church in north Belfast. The city had seen heightened tension between communities over the parading issue earlier that summer and during September itself. Irvine and Maginness discusses the significance of the Covenant parade to the unionist community. Talkback is BBC Radio Ulster’s daily afternoon phone-in programme.
