Transcript of a press conference with John Major, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and Albert Reynolds, Irish Taoiseach, on 16 June 1993. On that date Major and Reynolds held a meeting in London in which they called on talks to resume between Northern Ireland’s political parties. In this press conference Major and Reynolds discuss the importance of the three strand strategy to furthering the Peace Process. Six months later they issued the Downing Street Declaration which affirmed the right of the people of Northern Ireland to self-determination and stated that future relations between North and South on the island of Ireland were to be determined by the consent of people on both parts of the island.
