Civic Voices is the joint initiative of two international civic education projects: Civics Mosaic and the Democracy Memory Bank. It is funded by the US Department of Education (the US Department of State cooperates in the work of the projects).
Civics Mosaics provides learning resources for teachers and students on comparative civics and politics around the globe.
Memory Bank Narratives engages teachers and students from around the world in developing a rich bank of oral histories from democratic activists. Students learn how to conduct oral histories and preserve the legacy of their country’s democratic struggles. There are twenty-six featured interviews relating to Northern Ireland and to a number of relevant concepts including; Consent of the Governed; Human Rights; Multi-Party systems. Of particular relevance is: http://www.civicvoicesforpeace.org/ which includes interviews with key figures in Northern Ireland about their strategies for change. Interviewees include Mairead Maguire, Monica McWilliams, Paddy-Joe McClean, Patsy McGlone, Ian McCrea MLA, Martin Smyth, Ken Maginnis and Paul McLean. New interviews are regularly added.
