School of Politics and International Relations

The School today

Today the School of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary is a large, diverse and exciting place to learn, teach and research. We have over 1400 students across our programmes, over 50 full-time Faculty, and as well as a vibrant community of Early Career Researchers, Research Fellows, and PhD students.

We continue to fulfil our mission of expanding opportunities, providing outstanding education, producing world leading research, and engaging with pressing social and political issues. We have one of the most diverse student bodies among Russell Group Politics departments. We serve groups and communities traditionally under-represented among top UK universities and provide global access to learning through our Distance Learning programmes.

Our research ranges across the field of politics and international relations. We continue our long tradition of critically engaging with the most pressing issues facing states and communities around the world, and we have an active programme of engaging with policymaking and the media both here and abroad. Our two major research centres, The Mile End Institute and the Centre for European Research play a leading role in important policy discussions.

As the School enters its second half-century, it continues to expand and develop, drawing on on its unique position in East London and its global outlook, we continue to address the major political challenges of our times.
