The “meaningful vote” is set to be one of the key votes as the Lords’ amendments to the EU Withdrawal Bill pass through the House of Commons on Tuesday. Professor of Politics at Queen Mary, Tim Bale said: “This is probably the vote this week.” He added: “The rest, rightly or wrongly, can be described as technical and/or as covering issues that can be dealt with in other bills which need to pass through the Commons later on. The meaningful vote is, if you like, the ultimate insurance policy against a no-deal or overly-hard Brexit. If MPs don’t go for it this week, they can’t be 100 per cent sure they will get another chance.”More »
