Professor of Politics, Professor Tim Bale, spoke with BBC Radio on the likelihood of striking a Brexit deal with the EU following the UK’s proposals on the Irish border. Professor Bale said: “I suspect it’s been unlikely ever since the UK announced its proposals a week or so ago. They go back on some of the essentials as far as the EU are concerned for keeping the Irish border open. They don’t really represent any kind of concession on the part of the UK, they actually represent a kind of ramping up of the UK's demands, and those demands are unacceptable for the EU. So we're really in a kind of stalemate situation where it's impossible to see how they can come close to a deal, certainly by next week anyway.”Clip unavailable
