Four decades on from Callaghan’s collapse, history is repeating itself

Published:

This month it is 40 years since the Callaghan government fell. Professor Philip Cowley published an article for The Times Red Box where he argues that history is repeating itself. He writes: “It is hard to know whether Jeremy Corbyn would be more offended by the comparison with Mrs Thatcher than Mrs Thatcher would have been to be compared with Jeremy Corbyn. And Jeremy Corbyn hasn’t actually won an election yet. But the similarities seem more important. Corbyn has been consistently under-estimated, ever since he squeaked onto the ballot for his party’s leadership in 2015.”
