May Day protests in France

Published:

Professor Rainbow Murray was interviewed on Sky News about the May Day protests in France, the gilet jaunes and President Macron. She argued that the impact of the protests has been mitigated by the lack of a credible alternative to Macron, leaving the street as the only place where protesters have a voice. She said: “This is the international workers day which in France can be translated as ‘the annual shout at the government day’, so we traditionally see large numbers of unions taking to the streets. It’s unsurprising that the gilet jaunes are continuing the campaign that they’ve been running for the past six months on this additional day of protest.”
