MPs are preparing to fight their third election in less than five years in December but, as Westminster burst into a flurry of activity on Wednesday, attention was drawn to those who would be standing aside this time around. Shortly after Heidi Allen announced she would not fight the 12 December election, Amber Rudd and Nicky Morgan followed her. What do these three have in common? They are all very prominent female politicians and they all stood in the 2017 election under the Tory manifesto. Professor of Politics, Professor Philip Cowley, did some analysis on the number of resignations compared with the average from the last 40 years and concluded the number was lower than normal. But he pointed out this is not a normal election and the number was actually high considering there will have been resignations before the 2015 and the 2017 elections. Find out more
