The new Speaker of the House of Commons is likely to be less interventionist than the incumbent, John Bercow, candidates vying for the highly coveted position in the UK parliament suggested on Wednesday. Professor of Politics, Professor Tim Bale, said: “I think they may pitch to MPs on the basis that they won’t ‘do a Bercow’. However, as they grow into the job they might find that dull isn’t the best way to go. After all, you need a big personality to impose your authority on an increasingly fractious chamber.
