The Evening Standard reports that Londoners are saying an emphatic “no” to Theresa May’s Brexit deal, with 7 out of 10 saying they would rather stay in the European Union. The exclusive poll also found that nearly half of Londoners want a second referendum to be called, the strongest support yet, with 47 per cent in favour and just 29 per cent against. The findings by YouGov, with research commissioned by Queen Mary University of London, suggest a big shift from the referendum in 2016 when the capital divided 60-40 for staying in the EU. Professor Tim Bale said: “We’re used to thinking of London as a bastion for Remain, but it looks like the Government’s failure to get us out of the EU on a basis that Parliament can agree on has only strengthened feeling in the capital.”
