Former Researcher at Queen Mary’s Mile End Institute Mercy Muroki, took centre stage at the Conservative Party conference during its second day to introduce Chancellor Sajid Javid to the stage. During her introduction she paid tribute to her former mentor, Professor Philip Cowley of the School of Politics and International Relations. In referring to Professor Cowley, Ms Muroki said: “He made me believe in myself. He made me believe that somebody who came to this country as a child, who was raised by a hardworking single mum and who was the only kid in the school photo who couldn’t afford a school uniform could achieve anything I wanted too.”Find out more, from 04:45:00
