Sophie Harman, Professor of International Politics at Queen Mary University of London spoke with BBC World News Service on Saturday to highlight how women have felt more affected than men by the global pandemic. She said: “We are seeing across the board in different countries and on different socio-economic status, that women have been massively affected by Covid- 19. That’s because of bigger headlines around domestic violence are going up during periods of lockdown and quarantine but also from the everyday domestic care burden that women are facing within the home, so that’s increased childcare, increased working around extended families but also the financial hit that your poll has really flagged.”
