Reforming our police services has a long way to go

Dr Adam Elliott-Cooper, a Lecturer in Public and Social Policy at Queen Mary, explored in his research that policing was founded on violence and racism as part of the British colonial project. Today’s police may insist that they can tackle the problem by removing racist and sexist officers but even the Independent Office for Police Conduct acknowledges they can no longer brush off misogyny and racism in the force as a “few bad apples”.
