Replacing the chief whip won’t save Johnson’s premiership

Published:

Professor Phillip Cowley, from Queen Mary's School of Politics and International Relations explains why Boris Johnson's mini reshuffle isn't nearly enough to save him. He wrote: "There can be valid reasons for a prime minister to want to change their chief whip, as Boris Johnson has just done. If they have lost their trust or the respect of the parliamentary party – and in the case of Mark Spencer, it seems as if both were true – then it is time for a change. But the idea that a new chief whip will make much of a difference to the problems the government faces is for the birds."
