Writing in the Times, Professor Cowley, Professor of Politics at Queen Mary University of London, discusses his polling into what voters knew — or thought they knew — about the new prime minister. He writes that this has revealed two contradictory findings. Firstly, that “despite the mass coverage of Sunak’s rise to power, a non-trivial percentage of voters still don’t know some fairly basic things about him and his background.” Secondly, that “most voters actually have noticed things about his background — and fairly accurately.” Professor Cowley was also quoted in a separate piece in the Times on the increasing importance of constituency.
