Our Law of the Creative Industries LLM is part of an Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters of “The Masters in Intellectual Property, Data and the Law (MIPDAL)” designed by a consortium of leading European universities. You will study at one of the European partners in semester 1 and then come to London to study with QMUL for semesters 2 and 3. This innovative programme is structured to follow professionally-oriented study tracks, where you will benefit from the unique experience of studying at a partner before coming to Queen Mary in January.
MIPDAL graduates will:
- Achieve an LLM and an award from the Consortium Partner
- Learn from Queen Mary’s highly regarded Intellectual Property Law academics and be involved with all the Intellectual Property Research Institute has to offer.
- Compare national legal systems from a European perspective
- Deepen knowledge in the law of the creative industries, benefiting from their studies in London
- Have the opportunity to also study at UC3M in Madrid, University of Strasbourg (CEIPI), TU Dresden in Germany or TalTech in Estonia.
Please note this is a joint masters where you must study all the foundational material at one of the named partner institutions before coming to London for your specialism in Creative Industries.

What you'll study
Students will gain a solid foundation in intellectual property law and policy in the creative industries, learn to analyse complex legal situations, and understand rights management in key jurisdictions and sectors, including fashion, film, theatre, interactive entertainment, and technology. The program also emphasizes the relationship between intellectual property law and other areas such as human rights, art, media, and competition law.

The Creative Industries track involving Queen Mary leads to an LLM in Law of the Creative Industries. This track is specifically tailored for students interested in the dynamic and evolving field of creative industries law.

Semester 1:
- Enrolment with both QMUL (Online) and the relevant Consortium partner
- Induction at the Consortium partner, including online introductions to the QMUL Programme Director
- Module registration for courses in London (semesters 2 and 3)
- Classes and assessment at the Consortium partner (equivalent to 60 QM credits)
- Dissertation proposal submission to QMUL, with guidance provided remotely
Semester 2:
- Move to London for on-site induction at QMUL
- Undertake elective modules at QMUL (equivalent to 60 QM credits)
- Compulsory Entrepreneurship Law Clinic module for students on the UC3M track
- Non-credit-bearing course: "Critical Thinking and Writing in Law" (CTWL)
Semester 3:
- Complete a 60-credit dissertation supervised by QMUL, or

Assessment

The School of Law
The School of Law is part of Queen Mary University of London, a member of both the University of London and the Russell Group.
