Public engagement activities cannot happen without the right resource and in many cases that resource comes with cost implications. Thankfully there are a number of different avenues that can provide funding to support your public engagement work, both within Queen Mary and externally.
To help you stand the best chance in securing engagement funding, the Centre for Public Engagement can work with you to develop competitive grant applications with high-quality engagement narratives through bespoke support.
Public engagement activities can be included, and costed into, grants to the Research Councils (usually up to 10% of a total grant application). In some cases, applications provide dedicated space for you to include your engagement work (such as the Wellcome Trust) whilst in other applications you can embed your proposals into your case for support (such as AHRC).
The CPE are able to provide support in developing your case for public engagement through:
If you're interested in accessing any of this support, email the CPE as early as possible (publicengagement@qmul.ac.uk) to arrange.
There are a number of external public engagement funding schemes that provide opportunities to apply for dedicated funding to support your activities.
The CPE are available to provide support in developing competitive public engagement grant proposals. We offer the following services:
Not sure where to find these opportunities? You can find information on the available schemes on the National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement's website here or join the CPE Newsletter where we list opportunities as they arise.
At Queen Mary, we have dedicated funding schemes to support you with your engagement work. The Centre for Public Engagement run monthly Small Grants and annual Large Grants which support projects that engage the public with research, teaching, or other core business, happening at Queen Mary.
Though the CPE run this scheme, they are not involved with the panel review, and therefore are able to read and give advice on draft applications ahead of their submission to the scheme. If you are interested in accessing this service, please refer to the information on the Large Grants and Small Grants pages for further details.
