Having festive celebrations while respecting social distancing measures due to Covid-19 requires you to think outside the box! Fortunately, we encourage our students to be innovative and adaptable, and they rose to the challenge when we organised an end of term celebration.
As we welcomed 2021 and the new Semester, this is what one student had to say about the event.
"The qLegal team arranged a party for us to meet with each other face-to face and to promote team building. We all came dressed in green, red and loads of sparkle, in keeping with the Christmas spirit, we also organised Secret Santa where you had to send an online present to another colleague selected by the qLegal team for you!
On the day of the party, everyone was buzzing as it was the first time we were all meeting face-to-face (while still observing social distancing). Everyone came with their individual food and drink and the room was big enough for everybody to social distance. The joy of seeing colleagues and the qLegal team in person, and not through a screen, can only be imagined!
We played games; both online and in person, fun and games galore! It was great fun participating in the pub quiz and competing against those online. It was entertaining to witness law students struggle to answer questions outside of their field. Have you ever played Heads up? Yes, Heads up! What is that? Oh, well it is a guessing game where you must figure out who or what is written on a piece of paper stuck on your forehead.
Pub quiz? What is that? For those who are living in the UK for the first time, pub quizzes are a British tradition and usually take place in pubs with different teams competing to answer questions from all aspects of life.
We all simultaneously sent our Secret Santa e-present to the person selected; the joy on the faces of colleagues receiving their e-present was wonderful to see, while at the same time trying to figure out who had sent the present!
Did we wish that it could continue without social distancing in place? Definitely! We all hope that meeting up in person and getting to know each other will help build a stronger relationship for the future. But as social distancing is the new normal, we had to adapt. Despite all the obstacles we still had fun and enjoyed every moment of the party."
