Unexpected challenges can lead to unexpected opportunities and the pandemic has proved to be a catalyst for new collaborations and fresh approaches to working together
qLegal was delighted to be introduced to the work of the Culture & Commerce Taskforce, an initiative spearheaded by the Lord Mayor of London in conjunction with the City of London Corporation and Culture Mile.
Recognising the challenges faced by cultural institutions, freelance creatives and commercial organisations, the vision of the Culture & Commercial Taskforce is: ‘for culture and commerce to work together to ensure London’s creative energy and competitive strengths retain its position as the best city in the world in which to live, work, learn and invest.’
The benefits of cross-disciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange are close to qLegal’s heart. qLegal’s postgraduate law students have provided free written legal advice, delivered training sessions, and provided in-house support to people across the creative sector on matters relating to fashion, game design, visual art, digital music and more.
However, it’s recognised that this is not a one-way street. In What’s Your Superpower?, one of several ‘Think Pieces’ in the Commerce & Culture Taskforce Knowledge Bank, Karen Watton, the qLegal Director, highlights ways in which creativity is part of qLegal students’ experience.
