The Sino-UK Executive course on International Trade and Intellectual Property (the Sino-UK IP Course) is a joint venture between the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London (CCLS) and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce (SCOFCOM). Initiated by Dr Guan H Tang (Academic Director) in 2017, the annual Sino-UK IP Course provides a platform for in-depth discussions on contemporary issues of IP and offers an holistic view of business law with an IP law context. Participants include lawyers, civil servants and researchers. In his opening remarks of the 4th Sino-UK IP Course on 21 July 2020, Mr Shen Weihua, Vice Director General, expressed SCOFCOM's willingness to "develop and promote the brand of CCLS-SCOFCOM IP".  A number of QMIPRI and CCLS faculty members contribute to the course, including Prof Johnson Griffiths, Mr John Hull, Dr Noam Shemtov, Prof Ioannis Kokkoris, Prof David Musker, Dr Gabriel Gari, Prof Ian Walden, Prof Guido Westkamp, Dr Apostolos Chronopoulos, and Dr Guan H Tang.

The China National Intellectual Property Research Administration (CNIPA, formerly the State Intellectual Property Office, SIPO) Training Programme was initiated by Professor Duncan Matthews, Director of QMIPRI . Since September 2015, the yearly delegations of CNIPA officials have completed specialist training on UK and European law and practice in patents, trade marks, designs and copyright at the Centre for Commercial Law Studies, Queen Mary University of London. The annual CNIPA Training Programme includes study visits to the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and the offices of two leading firms specialising in patents and trademarks, Kilburn and Strode and J A Kemp. The programme is designed to contribute to a greater understanding of UK and European intellectual property law and practice so that the CNIPA officials can work more efficiently in their respective fields.
