Jo Elliott is a Reader, Learning Design in the Digital Education Studio within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London. Jo leads a team of learning designers working on a range of digital learning programmes and projects within the Faculty. She joined QMUL in 2023 from Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA).
Jo’s scholarship work centres on creating engaging, effective and inclusive digital learning experiences for students. Areas of particular focus include critical digital pedagogy, co-creation and student-staff partnership, accessible and inclusive learning design, and social learning. She shares this work through conferences, publications and communities of practice, including FMD’s Digital Education Community of Practice, of which she is co-chair.
Throughout her career, Jo has been focussed on student support and engagement throughout the entire student journey – from transitioning to university, to graduation and beyond. She is excited to continue this work through her Queen Mary Academy Fellowship, in which she will look at how the University, schools/institutes, teaching teams and students themselves can use learner engagement analytics to improve student support, engagement and success.
