Educational Scholarship

As a hub for educational scholarship activities at the Queen Mary Academy, we support you to develop, evaluate and disseminate your work, as well as to measure the impact of your practice.

We aim to embed a culture of educational scholarship around our strategic pedagogic priorities as articulated in the Queen Mary Education Approach and arising from the National Student Survey. Priorities include:

  • Assessment and Feedback
  • Teaching on our courses
  • Inclusivity
  • Student Voice
  • Learner Engagement Analytics
  • Digital pedagogies
  • Instructional design

Whatever your reason for wanting to engage in educational scholarship, support is available. You will find resources to take you through every stage of your engagement with scholarly activities.

Getting started - ethics

Any research project with human participants at Queen Mary needs the approval of the Queen Mary Ethics of Research Committee. Applications for ethical approval should following the guidance for research with human participants outside the NHS: http://www.jrmo.org.uk/performing-research/conducting-research-with-human-participants-outside-the-nhs/

When developing your scholarship plan, we strongly recommend consulting the guidance from the British Educational Research Association (BERA), including:

  • BERA’s Ethical Guidelines for Educational Research
  • The BERA Charter for Educational Research
  • The BERA Statement on Close-to-Practice Research
